Four33: An Improvisation Podcast

Four33 examines the role of improvisation in our daily lives.

As we currently grapple with the global pandemic, shifting economies, and
civil rights failures, improvisation has become a crucial survival skill for a
global community in flux. Fortunately, we can take hope and inspiration from
the people who are looking for what’s possible; a lived experience which
provides the wisdom and agility required to look past ones personal horizons and create meaningful social change.

Every two weeks, hosts Carey West and Steve Donnelly will wade into the deep and often messy waters of improvisatory practices with the keen attention and playful sensibility that
make art and life possible. Drawing our recordings name from a title of a
composition, this podcast series makes a honest attempt to harmonize playful
tactics with relevant social commentary*. Expect robust discussion on important
ideas, regular creative interludes, irregular instalments of sound
experimentation, and on-the-street interviews and suggestions on how and where
to experience the podcast – our invitation to take theory and play to the
sensual, analogue world. By probing the expertise of people who’ve had to
improvise existence, we ask how can we apply our playful imagination to shapes
the opportunities we have to collectively reform culture.

Four33 is hosted and produced by Carey West and Stephen Donnelly.

Four33 is supported by artseverywhere/Musagetes and the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation

football/soccer known for its flexibility and responsiveness.
